Wright’s attorney said that the new trial should be based on new evidence. According to the motion filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, Wright’s ex-wife, Sheena Wright, “was coerced into making” the plea.

Her lawyer, Billy Gibbons, told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he filed court papers seeking to withdraw the pleas she made. Wright’s then-boyfriend, Billy Rowell, is charged with killing Lorenzen Wright. Michael Boyd Cunningham Jr., a friend of Rowell’s, was also charged in connection with the case but died.

Nia Guzman-Wright, who married Wright in 2002, was sentenced to one year of probation community service after falsely accusing Wright of domestic violence. In a motion filed Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Guzman-Wright requests that the plea be vacated and that she be retried. She cites the “vast amount of new evidence” that has come to light since her arrest.
