The Royal Vault Inside Details
The Royal Vault is situated 70 feet beneath St George Chapel and it is said to be 70 feet long and 28 feet wide. The first ever to be buried there was King George III and it occurred in 1820. This vault is the final resting place of many of the royals and prior to that royals were initially buried in the Westminster Abbey. The space in the vault has the capacity to hold around 44 bodies and the walls can shelve up to 32 coffins as well. Apart from that, the centre can have 12 more royals as well. Although the space is wide, the entrance is still narrowed and is guarded by an iron gate as well. It is designed in such a way that the vault at the end has a small altar as well.

Since the vault s built it has been a permanent and temporary built resting place for many of the royals. Some royals were uplifted from their Original burial place and placed here, while some of them were taken out from the vault and buried in the place that they wanted. Like Prince Phillip who was placed in Vault temporarily and then, he will now be placed beside her highness. Although people other than the royals cannot enter the royal vault, normal people can attend the services at St. George’s chapel. This week the whole area around the chapel is busy as the nation mourns the death of her highness Queen Elizabeth II.
